Play a sport. If exercise is sucking the living soul out of you, take up an outdoor sport you’ll enjoy, like football, badminton, volleyball, etc. It’ll get your body moving; improve your metabolism rate and burn excess fat. It doesn’t matter if you’re totally new to playing a sport or you’re just looking for a new challenge – there’s something out there for everyone.

Before every meal, it’s always best to drink a glass of water. When you do that, you really don’t have the urge to eat excessively. Drink one glass of water 30 minutes before a meal to help digestion. Remember not to drink too soon before or after a meal as the water will dilute the digestive juices. Drink water an hour after the meal to allow the body to absorb the nutrients.

You need to have regular meals. Stick to a routine that works best for your body and never break away from it. It’ll prevent you from binge-eating. It is important to eat regular meals to ensure your body gets the energy it needs to perform. To prevent big hunger pangs between meals and overindulging at main meal times, spread your food intake over five to six smaller meals and snacks, rather than eating three large main meals a day.

On that note though, grab yourself a small plate so that the portion of food you serve yourself is less. Humans are not designed to eat consciously. So reducing your plate size will reduce the amount of food consumed. It’s a proven fact.

Prevent yourself from eating white sugar. It’s carbs that’ll most probably never find its way out of your body. Also, white sugar is one of the worst things you can give your body. Replace this with brown sugar, or better still, organic jaggery.

Detox is key. Your body needs some internal cleansing. It needs to get rid of all the toxins that have been accumulating. Fruits and vegetables that are major detox components have the ability to oxidise fat in your body. Here are some detox smoothies you can try out.

Apparently you should laugh – every single day. An hour of laughing can burn calories. If you think it’s weird, join a laughter club (yes, they do exist). When you laugh, your brain releases beta-endorphins, which leads to the release of nitric oxide, our blood pressure and pulse rates drop slightly, endorphins (chemicals that sup-press pain and help you to feel better) are released into our bodies, and T-cells (key fighters in our immune systems) increase.

Walk to work. Cycle to work. Take public transport. You need to get your body moving if you want a waistline worth staring at. Make walking to work part of your healthy lifestyle, you could be lowering your risk of chronic conditions.
